Jamie loves keeping on top of current trends and talking about why Paris Hilton was (and continues to be) the OG influencer and cultural powerhouse of our generation.
This is the story of how we got so popular that we are now getting impersonated...
It's very frustrating and hurtful, but recently we have received several messages from candidates asking about non-existent job opportunities, allegedly being referred by our non-existing employees. We're doing all we can to stop this, but in the meantime, these are a few steps you can go through to ensure that you're really speaking to us, and not to a scammer who's trying to weaponise your personal information.
1. Check our Meet the Team page
It might not be the case for many companies out there, but we are actually very meticulous in keeping our Team page up-to-date. Every single one of our employees is listed there as soon as they start and taken off as soon as they leave, with their work phone numbers and email addresses.
So if a Lorraine from Priority reaches out to you - it's not us. In the last 12 years, we somehow never employed anyone named Lorraine or Kris, and we'll update our Meet the Team page if that ever changes.
These are real-life examples, unfortunately, take a look below:
.
2. Details about the job role
We would never get in touch with you to discuss a role without saying what it actually is. We are a specialist agency operating within just a few sectors: Retail & Sales, Healthcare and Operations & HR, and Emerging Tech on our Priority Crypto side. So you can probably see why it's impossible that we would text or email you with a non-descript 'job' without mentioning the job title and specific experience required. If the initial message doesn't mention:
- Job Title
- Location
- Salary range
- Experience or other things required (for example, driver's license or a particular software experience)
...then it's likely you're dealing with a scammer. Always ask these questions first before providing any personal details, in the 1% chance that they're a real recruiter who's just not very good at their job.
3. Phone number, name and profile picture
The scams we saw evidence of mainly happened on WhatsApp. The scammers are getting better every year, but sometimes you can still see through them - is the number a UK number? Does the photo look real or like a stock image that could have been taken straight from Google? Does the name in their WhatsApp account match what they just put in their message? Is the message written in correct English? Stay vigilant.
If you're one of the people affected by this, we can only say we're deeply sorry. We're here to provide people with awesome recruitment experiences and we're honestly quite angry that someone out there is trying to weaponise our name and brand for dishonest purposes.
Always check with our website and stay safe out there!
Paula, Support Worker
"I have worked with Carl for several years now and in all of the time I have been in care and support, I have found that he is always there when needed, in a professional, kind and approachable manner. Carl is a credit to his role and goes above and beyond to help and always has a good ear to lend. If I need information on anything he will go out of your way to help, always being professional yet kind. He oozes empathy and genuinely cares for his staff, even if sometimes I feel like I could be choosy with my job roles. Carl is the now and the future of care and a lot of professionals could take a leaf out of his book, he shows what a real Manager is all about with all of the words I have said and mean."
Why We Should All Be Buzzing About World Bee Day
At Priority Recruitment, we're all about building a better future for ourselves and for our planet. That's why we're committed to supporting causes that promote sustainability and environmental responsibility. And what could be more important than the health of our bee population?
As you may know, World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20th each year. This day is a chance to raise awareness about the importance of bees and other pollinators for the health of our planet. Bees play a vital role in our ecosystem, pollinating plants that produce fruits, vegetables, and nuts. In fact, one-third of the world's food production relies on pollinators like bees!
Unfortunately, bees are facing a number of threats, including habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. These threats are causing bee populations to decline at an alarming rate. If we don't take action, this could have a devastating impact on our food security and the overall health of our planet.
So what can we do to help save bees? There are a number of things that we can all do, both as individuals and as businesses. Here are a few tips:
- Plant bee-friendly flowers. This will provide bees with a source of food and habitat.
- Avoid using pesticides. Pesticides can harm bees and other pollinators.
- Support sustainable agriculture. Look for products that are grown using sustainable practices that protect bees and other pollinators.
- Spread the word! Talk to your friends, family, and colleagues about the importance of bees and what we can do to help save them.
By taking action together, we can make a difference for bees and for the future of our planet.
Here at Priority Recruitment, we're committed to doing our part. We're always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact and support sustainable businesses. We also encourage our employees to get involved in bee conservation efforts. Learn more about our sustainability commitments here: https://www.priorityrecruitment.co.uk/sustainability
As we celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week (13th-17th May 2024), it's essential to embrace this year's theme: Movement.
Prioritising physical activity not only enhances your physical health but also significantly boosts your mental well-being. At Priority Recruitment, we understand the importance of a balanced, healthy lifestyle for our team and community. Here are six evidence-based ways to incorporate more movement into your daily routine and improve your mental health.
1. Morning Stretch Routine
Starting your day with a gentle stretch routine can awaken your body and mind, preparing you for the challenges ahead. Research indicates that stretching can enhance flexibility, reduce stress, and improve mood (Harvard Health Publishing, 2021). Incorporating movements such as yoga or simple stretches can be a beneficial way to transition from sleep to wakefulness.
2. Walking Meetings
Breaking the monotony of traditional meetings by turning them into walking meetings can stimulate creativity and reduce stress. A study from Stanford University found that walking boosts creative output by an average of 60% (Oppezzo & Schwartz, 2014). Fresh air and a change of scenery can significantly enhance mental clarity and focus.
3. Desk Exercises
For those spending long hours at a desk, integrating short, regular desk exercises can be incredibly beneficial. Simple movements like leg lifts, seated marches, or desk push-ups can increase blood flow and reduce tension (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Setting a reminder to take a break every hour to stretch or move around can help maintain physical and mental well-being.
4. Lunchtime Walks
Using your lunch break as an opportunity to get moving can be a refreshing way to break up the day and clear your mind. A brisk walk around the block or a nearby park can boost mood and energy levels, making the second half of your workday more productive (British Heart Foundation, 2019). Exposure to natural light and fresh air can significantly improve mental health.
5. Active Commutes
Making your commute more active can have substantial health benefits. Consider walking or cycling part of the way to work, or even the entire distance if feasible. For those who drive or take public transport, try parking further away or getting off a stop earlier to add some walking to your journey. These small changes can increase your daily physical activity and contribute to overall health (NHS, 2020).
6. Fitness Breaks
Incorporating short fitness breaks into your daily schedule can significantly elevate your heart rate and mood. Whether it’s a quick home workout, a few minutes of jumping jacks, or a dance session to your favourite song, these mini workouts can be highly effective. Studies have shown that even short bouts of physical activity can improve mental health and cognitive function (American Psychological Association, 2019).
The Benefits of Movement for Mental Health
Engaging in regular physical activity offers numerous benefits for mental health. It can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, improve sleep quality, and boost self-esteem and cognitive function (Mind, 2018). Movement helps release endorphins, the body's natural mood lifters, which can help you feel more positive and energetic.
At Priority Recruitment, We Move Together
At Priority Recruitment, we encourage our team and community to embrace movement as a tool for enhancing mental health. By integrating these small but impactful habits into your daily life, you can experience a significant improvement in your overall well-being. This Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s commit to moving more and supporting each other on our journey towards better mental health. This week, we'll also be particularly thinking of our charity partner, Manchester Mind. Feel free to donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/priority-recruitment-manchester-mind
Remember, every step counts. Let’s move together for a healthier, happier life.

As recent months have shown, from high-street institutions like Harvey Nichols to fashion icons like Ted Baker, even the most established brands are having to adapt to a rapidly evolving retail landscape.
Harvey Nichols Streamlines for Profitability
Luxury department store Harvey Nichols, known for its designer labels and opulent shopping experience, has been grappling with declining sales for several years. A number of factors have contributed to this: a shift in consumer habits, with luxury shoppers increasingly turning to online platforms and discount retailers for their designer fix; rising rents and overheads, making maintaining prime locations in major cities a significant financial burden; and increased competition not only from other department stores but also from high-end boutiques and independent online retailers.
Their recent restructuring, with a workforce reduction of less than 5%, is a necessary step to streamline operations and ensure profitability. However, it's a stark reminder of the challenges facing even the most established luxury retailers in an industry where the definition of luxury itself is constantly evolving.
Ted Baker Faces Administration
The recent news of Ted Baker entering administration paints a bleaker picture. The fashion brand, known for its quirky prints and tailored fits, has been struggling financially for several years. A series of accounting issues in 2019 eroded consumer trust and damaged the brand's reputation. Additionally, Ted Baker's signature style hasn't fully resonated with younger generations who are drawn to more streetwear-inspired looks. Frequent leadership changes created instability and hampered the development of a clear long-term strategy, further hindering the brand's ability to adapt to changing fashion trends. This situation highlights the importance of adapting to changing consumer preferences and maintaining a strong brand identity in a competitive market.
What Does This Mean for Retail Professionals?
These developments are a stark reminder of the importance of adaptability and resilience for retail professionals. The industry is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by factors such as the rise of e-commerce, changing consumer preferences, and economic uncertainty.
Here are some tips for retail professionals to navigate this changing landscape:
- Embrace lifelong learning: Stay ahead of the curve by continuously developing your skills and knowledge. This could involve attending industry events, taking online courses, or pursuing professional qualifications. Check out our Career Advice pages.
- Highlight your digital literacy: With the growing importance of e-commerce, it's essential to demonstrate your knowledge of digital marketing, social media, and online sales channels in the job market.
- Be prepared to be adaptable: The retail industry is constantly evolving, so be prepared to adjust your skillset and embrace new technologies.
- Partner with a specialist recruitment agency: A reputable recruitment agency can provide valuable guidance and support as you navigate your career path in the retail sector. Get in touch with our Retail team here.

In a recent global (and later viral) survey, nearly half (47%) of surveyed Britons agreed that women's equality has gone too far. It's an increase from 38% last year, and nearly twice the percentage of the countries at bottom of the list such as Japan, Poland and Canada.
Do they have a fair point? If we compare our 2024 reality to the one 70, 100 or 200 years ago, it seems that the change for women and minorities equality has been so great that we might struggle for examples of what else could be achieved. As a recruitment company, we took a look at some numbers concerning women's equality in the workplace, to investigate whether we can all put our feet up and forget all about women's equality, or if the fight is not over yet.
Gender Pay Gap
The seemingly positive strides towards equality are unfortunately dampened by the persistent gender pay gap. The report by PwC highlights that this gap is widening in many countries, with the UK being a stark example. Even after accounting for relevant factors like experience, women in the UK are demonstrably paid 14.5% less than their male counterparts. This means that women earn 90p for every £1 that a man earns. The UK has consistently lagged behind the OECD average on this measure for the majority of the last decade. This glaring disparity points towards a concerning reality of bias and prejudice still influencing workplace remuneration.
Participation Rate Gap
Another concerning aspect identified in the report is the participation rate gap. While women are undoubtedly entering the workforce in greater numbers, the statistics still reveal a gap compared to men. The document says that the participation rate gap between men and women in the UK is 7.1%. This could be due to a multitude of factors, including societal pressures, lack of affordable childcare options, and workplace inflexibility in catering to working mothers' needs. Addressing these issues is crucial to ensure a more balanced and equitable participation rate.
Full-time Employment Rate
The article also sheds light on the full-time employment rate disparity. While women are increasingly entering the workforce, the number securing full-time positions continues to lag behind men. Women have a full-time employment rate of 89.9% and men have a full-time employment rate of 97%. This could be attributed to a variety of reasons, including a preference for part-time work due to childcare responsibilities or a lack of access to full-time opportunities. Regardless of the cause, this discrepancy necessitates further investigation and targeted efforts to ensure women have equal access to full-time work if they so choose.
A Step Back?
Despite the UK's Index score increasing by 1.1 points between 2021 and 2022, reflecting small improvements on most indicators, its rank fell from 13th place to 17th place - the largest annual fall in rankings experienced by any OECD country this year. This can be attributed to two key factors. Firstly, the gender pay gap in the UK actually widened from 14.3% in 2021 to 14.5% in 2022. This runs counter to the positive trend needed for true progress. Secondly, other countries are making strides towards gender equality at work at a faster pace than the UK. This means that the UK is not only failing to close its own internal gaps, but also falling behind the global curve. This highlights the need for a renewed focus on achieving gender equality in the UK workplace.
The fight is not over yet
This year's Women's Day, let's remember about this day's socialist roots, where fighting for labour equality was at its core. The fact that we've come far as a society, even within our lifetimes, doesn't mean we've achieved full equality yet, as all statistics show.
